Zack Scruggs leads the way as Melon Mashers defeat the Greensboro Ducks12-6

Melon Mashers Baseball picked up another win Saturday night, defeating the Greensboro Ducks 12-6 at Northwest Guilford High School.

The Ducks struck first on a Jacob Trivete home run in the bottom of the first, but the Mashers answered back and took control as the game went on. Jordan Turner delivered a big double in the third inning to score two runs, helping Melon Mashers grab a 3-2 lead.

After Greensboro tied the game in the fourth, the Mashers broke it open in the sixth. Myles Odom was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, and Jordan Stucki followed with a walk to extend the lead. From there, Melon Mashers continued to pressure Greensboro on the bases and at the plate.

Carter Catlett IV earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on one hit over two innings while striking out one. Trevor Kirkman started for the Mashers and struck out four over four innings. Preston Williams added two scoreless innings in relief.

Offensively, Zack Scruggs led the Mashers with two hits. Stucki, Sebastian Rodriguez and Odom each drove in two runs. Turner and Rodriguez both doubled, while the team drew 11 walks and stole 12 bases.

Thompson Holloway led the running game with three stolen bases, while Turner added two.

Melon Mashers finished with 12 runs on seven hits in the 12-6 victory.
