Melon Mashers Blank Carolina White Sox, 8-0, Behind Dominant Four-Pitcher Shutout

CLIMAX, N.C. — The Melon Mashers turned in one of their most complete performances of the season Tuesday night, shutting out the Carolina White Sox 8-0 at Providence Grove High School behind a stellar effort from four pitchers and timely offense throughout the lineup.

The Mashers’ pitching staff combined to keep the White Sox off the scoreboard all night. Trevor Kirkman got the start and was outstanding, allowing just three hits over three scoreless innings while striking out seven without issuing a walk.

Carter Catlett IV earned the victory after throwing three hitless innings, striking out three while allowing no runs. Connor Adams and Seed Allred each added a scoreless inning in relief to complete the four-pitcher shutout, with Allred recording the game’s final out on a ground ball.

The Mashers struck first in the opening inning when Jordan Turner drove in the game’s first run with a groundout, giving the home team an early 1-0 advantage.

They doubled the lead in the third as Maddox Perez lined an RBI single down the left-field line to make it 2-0.

The offense broke the game open late, highlighted by a two-run home run from Sebastian Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh inning. Rodriguez’s blast to right field capped an eight-run offensive performance and put the finishing touches on the victory.

Perez and Rodriguez paced the offense with two hits apiece, while Rodriguez and Ashton Hooker each drove in two runs.

The Mashers also showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks. Myles Odom and Turner each reached via walk twice, while Turner created additional pressure by stealing two bases. As a team, the Mashers swiped four bases and added a defensive highlight by turning a double play.

Carolina White Sox collected three hits in the contest, but the Melon Mashers’ pitching staff consistently worked out of trouble to preserve the shutout.

With dominant pitching, aggressive baserunning, and contributions throughout the lineup, the Melon Mashers delivered an impressive all-around performance in front of the home crowd, earning an 8-0 victory and continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
