Hoses & Homers Tournament Brings Baseball, Community, and Breast Cancer Awareness Together

SOPHIA, N.C. — Baseball, community service and two important local causes will come together October 24–25 for the Greensboro Firefighters Charitable Fund Hoses & Homers Tournament, a Perfect Game Triad baseball event being held at New Market Civitan Park and Providence Grove High School.

The two-day tournament will bring travel baseball teams and families together from across the area for a weekend designed to be about more than wins and losses.

Hoses & Homers will benefit and bring awareness to the Greensboro Firefighters Charitable Fund, while Saturday’s activities will also feature the Safe at Second Base Mammogram Day, an initiative focused on encouraging women to receive their yearly mammograms and promoting the importance of early detection.

Safe at Second Base Mammogram Day

On Saturday, October 24, mobile mammography services will be available on-site at New Market Civitan Park from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The goal is simple: use the crowds and community created by baseball to make breast cancer awareness and access to annual mammogram screenings part of the conversation.

Safe at Second Base uses baseball as a platform to promote yearly mammograms, early detection and breast cancer awareness throughout the Triad community.

The combination of the Hoses & Homers Tournament and Safe at Second Base Mammogram Day gives players, coaches and families an opportunity to enjoy a weekend of baseball while supporting initiatives that make an impact far beyond the field.

Baseball Supporting the Community

The Hoses & Homers concept brings together baseball and the fire service around a shared commitment to the community.

The Greensboro Firefighters Charitable Fund works to support charitable efforts in the community, while the tournament provides an opportunity for local baseball families to help amplify that mission.

At the same time, Safe at Second Base will use the tournament environment to reach women and families with an important message:

Early detection saves lives.

By bringing mobile mammography directly to the ballpark, the event is designed to make getting a yearly screening more convenient while creating greater awareness among the hundreds of players, parents, coaches and spectators expected to attend throughout the weekend.
